Graphic organizers are visual display of information that assists students to comprehend a text. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of graphic organizers in teaching reading can improve students’ reading comprehension. The sample of this study was class VIII2 which consisted of 32 students. The writer used porposive sampling to choose the sample. This study used one group pretest-post-test design; it is one of research designs in experimental research. Pretest was given before treatment, while posttest was given after students taught by using graphic organizers. The instruments used in this study were tests; they were pretest and post-test. Both pretest and posttest consisted of twenty questions. The materials used in the test were recount texts. From the result, the writer found that the mean score of pretest was 49; while the mean score of post-test was 76. After using T-test formula, the writer found the t-test was 25.71 and the T-table was 1.696. The significant level used in this research was 0.05. Since the value of t-test was higher than t-table (25.71>1.696), Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that using graphic organizers in teaching reading has improved students’ reading comprehension.
