Title : The Application of Detailed Reading Strategy (DRS) in Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension (An Experimental Study at SMPN 1 Bandar Baru)

This research is an experimental study, and it used quasi experimental research with time-series design. The research was conducted at SMPN 1 Bandar Baru with the sample of 21 second grade students. It was taken by using random sampling. The instruments used were pre-test and post-test. The tests consist of multiple choice questions of narrative texts. The mean score of first and second pretest is 50. Meanwhile the third pretest is 73. The score of posttests are 66, 66.6, and 76.2. Based on Robson (2013) theory, this study gained the pattern of “premature effect experiment”. This graphic show that there is no effect of treatment. This graphic increase before treatment or before posttest. This graphic increase in third pretest. It means that the average score result of this study shows no effect of treatment. However, the students’ score reach KKM (76.2). The English teacher may combine DRS teaching with some other teaching in teaching reading.
