Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Syiah Kuala. Data dikumpulkan dari 20 mahasiswa semester empat yang telah menempuh mata kuliah Berbicara, dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Respons peserta ditabulasikan dan dianalisis. Setiap item dalam kuesioner dinilai menggunakan skala Likert lima poin untuk mengukur tingkat persetujuan dengan serangkaian pernyataan, mulai dari "sangat setuju" hingga "sangat tidak setuju". Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan dua kategori utama faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa: internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi aspek psikologis, motivasi, pengetahuan, kompetensi bahasa, dan pengetahuan topikal. Faktor eksternal meliputi lingkungan sosial, budaya, dan situasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor eksternal cenderung memiliki pengaruh yang lebih kuat dan lebih dikenal luas terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa dibandingkan dengan faktor internal.

ABSTRACT Mardiana. (2025). An Analysis of The Factors Influencing the Speaking Abilities Of English Department Students at Syiah Kuala University. [Undergraduate Thesis. Universitas Syiah Kuala]. Under the supervision of Dr. Dohra Fitrisia, S.Pd., M.Ed., and Diana Fauzia Sari, S.Pd., M.A. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to investigate the factors that influenced the speaking abilities of English Department students at Syiah Kuala University. The data were collected from 20 fourth-semester students who had taken a Speaking course, using a questionnaire. The participants’ responses were tabulated and analyzed. Each item in the questionnaire was rated using a five-point Likert scale to measure the degree of agreement with a series of statements, ranging from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree”. The findings revealed two main categories of factors that affected students’ speaking abilities: internal and external. Internal factors included psychological aspects, motivation, knowledge, language competence, and topical knowledge. External factors involved social, cultural, and situational environments. The results indicated that external factors tended to have a stronger and more widely recognized influence on students’ speaking abilities compared to internal factors.
