ABSTRACT Muhammad Luthfi Rahman. (2024). The Use of Digital Storytelling to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill (A Pre-Experimental Research of Second Grade at SMAN 1 Banda Aceh). [Undergraduate Thesis. Universitas Syiah Kuala]. Under the supervision Dr. Dian Fajrina, S.Pd., M.Ed, and Nurul Inayah S.Pd., M. TESOL. This study aimed to determine whether the use of digital storytelling media affects the students' speaking skills of the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Banda Aceh in the 2023/2024 academic year. This study used a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The sample of this study was class XI F-8 consisting of 36 students chosen by using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument of this study was a speaking test about the hortatory exposition text. The data was collected by using pre-tests and post-tests. The researcher analyzed the data using the SPSS. The data analysis showed that the student's average score on the pre-test was 45,56, while after using digital storytelling, the student's average score increased to 62,92 in the post-test. The result of data analysis also showed that the t-count (16,050) was higher than the t-table (2,032), so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. The pretest results obtained a sig value of 0.001, and the posttest results obtained a sig value of 0.088, indicating that the data is normally distributed. It showed that digital storytelling media has a significant effect in increasing students' speaking skills at second grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Banda Aceh, and the most significant improvement aspect is comprehension. The findings imply that integrating the digital storytelling media in an EFL classroom can enhance the students’ speaking abilities.
