Interaksi negatif manusia dan gajah terjadi di wilayah perkebunan, yang disebabkan oleh jarak antara perkebunan dan hutan sangat dekat. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Oktober 2022 s.d Mei 2023 bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi dan mitigasi masyarakat terhadap konflik manusia dan gajah di Kecamatan Trumon Tengah, Aceh Selatan. Pengumpulan data melalui wawancara terbimbing dengan panduan kuesioner sebanyak 30 orang responden dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling dan skoring jawaban responden menggunakan Skala Likert. Persepsi masyarakat terhadap konflik manusia dan gajah menujukkan bahwa persepsi negatif lebih tinggi daripada persepsi positif. Konflik manusia dan gajah menurut masyarakat dapat menyebabkan kerusakan lahan (70%), memakan tanaman (66,67%) dan merusak tanaman (53,33%). Namun, masyarakat memiliki kesadaran (63,33%) akan melaporkan gajah kepada petugas CRU (Conservation Response Unit) Naca apabila memasuki lahan masyarakat. Sementara itu, Mitigasi yang dilakukan masyarakat terhadap konflik manusia dan gajah menunjukkan masyarakat akan berlari menjauh, berteriak, dan membuat parit (76,67%). Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi kepada local stakeholder dalam penerapan mitigasi konflik, sehingga dapat meminimalisir kerugian yang ditimbulkan akibat konflik.

ABSTRACT Gina Yulia Putri (2023). Community Perceptions and Mitigation of Conflict between Humans and Sumatran Elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus) in Trumon Tengah District, South Aceh. Negative interactions between human and elephant are the most common issues happening in community plantation areas. The primary reason is due to the close location between plantationts and forests. This research was conducted in October 2022 until February 2023 with the aim of understanding community perceptions and mitigations of human-elephant conflict in Trumon Tengah District, South Aceh. Data collection was conducted through guided interviews with a questionnaire, 30 respondents were selected through a purposive sampling technique, and data of the respondent’s answer was perfomed using a Likert Scale. People's perception of human-elephant conflict shows the dominancy of negative perceptions towards positive perceptions. According to the community, conflict between humans and elephants can caused the farmer’s crops were destroyed (70%), ruined (66.67%), and loss (53.33%). Meanwhile, people are more aware (63,33%) of reporting elephants to CRU (Conservation Response Unit) Naca officers if they enter community land. Also, Community mitigation of human-elephant conflict shows that people would run away, screaming, and build the trenches (76.67%). This research is expected to provide information to local stakeholder in the implementation of conflict mitigation and reduced the losses caused by conflict.
