Penelitian yang berjudul “Efektivitas Model Problem Solving Melalui Metode Diskusi Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa” ini mengangkat masalah apakah model problem solving melalui metode diskusi dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model problem solving melalui metode diskusi dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa XI IPA SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh yang berjumlah 46 siswa. Sampel dalam penelitian ini dua kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan jumlah siswa setiap kelasnya adalah 23 siswa. Penentuan sampel dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes tertulis dan pengolahan data menggunakan uji N-gain dan menggunakan statistik uji-t. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model problem solving melalui metode diskusi lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan model konvensional. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa model problem solving melalui metode diskusi efektif digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa.

The research entitled "Effectiveness of the Problem Solving Model Through the Discussion Method to Improve Students' Critical Thinking Ability" raises the issue of whether the problem solving model through the discussion method can improve students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the problem solving model through the discussion method in improving students' critical thinking skills. The population of this study were 46 students of XI IPA at SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. The sample in this study were two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class, with 23 students in each class. Determination of the sample was done by purposive sampling. Research using a quantitative approach to the type of experimental research. Data collection was carried out by written tests and data processing using the N-gain test and using t-test statistics. The results of data analysis showed that the average value of the experimental class using the problem solving model through the discussion method was higher than the control class using the conventional model. Thus it can be concluded that the problem solving model through the discussion method is effectively used to improve students' critical thinking skills.
