This descriptive qualitative research was conducted to discover the real implementation of Information-Gap Task in improving students’ speaking skill at SMA Tunas Bangsa Aceh Barat Daya. The subjects of this research were teacher who applies Information-Gap Task and the 32 first grade students chosen through purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through observation checklist and questionnaire items. For the observation checklist, the writer adapted the format from students’ lesson plan practice 2015 and for questionnaire items the writer adapted the formula of Taylor & Powell (1998) and Bohous (2011). The data were analyzed by using the percentage formula as suggested by Sudijono (2010, p.43). The result of this research showed that the teacher applies the real implementation of Information-Gap Task with correct steps. Most students gave positive response toward the implementation of Information-Gap Task and agree that Information-Gap Task can help, motivate and attract them in improving speaking skill. Only a few students said that they do not enjoy the speaking practice through Information-Gap Task. In brief, the implementation of Information-Gap Task by the teacher improves students’ speaking skill and helps students cope with their speaking problem.
