Syarifah Ulfa Humaira (2026). “Using Youtube Videos in Improving Student’s Speaking Skills ( A Pre-Experimental Study of the First Grade Students at MTsS Darul Ihsan, Aceh Besar)’’ [Undergraduate Thesis. Universitas Syiah Kuala]. Under the supervision of Dr. Siti Sarah Fitriani, S.Pd., M.A, and Tgk. Maya Silviyanti, S.Pd., M.A Speaking is one of the essential skills students need to master in learning English. However, many students still experience difficulties expressing their ideas orally, such as a lack of vocabulary, low self confidence, and limited opportunities to practice speaking in class. Therefore, teachers need to use appropriate learning media to help students improve their speaking skills. One such media is YouTube videos, which provide authentic examples of spoken English and engaging learning materials for students. This study aims to determine whether the use of YouTube videos has a significant effect on students' English speaking skills. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, namely a one group pretest posttest design. The study participants were 28 students. Data were collected through speaking tests administered before and after the treatment. Speaking performance was assessed based on several aspects, including content, fluency, accuracy, clarity, and intonation. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. A normality test using the Shapiro-Wilk test was conducted to determine whether the data were normally distributed. A paired-sample t-test was then used to test the research hypotheses. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' speaking ability after using YouTube videos. The average score increased from 9.54 in the pretest to 16.18 in the posttest. Furthermore, the paired-sample t-test showed a significance value lower than 0.05 (p < 0.001). This indicates that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and that the use of YouTube videos has a significant impact on students' English speaking ability. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that YouTube videos can be used as an effective learning medium to improve students' speaking ability. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to integrate YouTube videos into the teaching and learning process to create a more engaging and effective learning environment.
