Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi persepsi prajurit tentang efektivitas dan tantangan belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing dalam konteks militer. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi terstruktur dan kuesioner terbuka yang melibatkan Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) asal Aceh yang telah mengikuti Kursus Bahasa Inggris Intensif (KIBI) di IM RINDAM. Data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan model yang diusulkan oleh Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña, yang meliputi pengurangan data, tampilan data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa tentara menganggap bahasa Inggris sebagai keterampilan penting untuk tugas militer, pengembangan karir, dan komunikasi internasional. Program pelatihan bahasa Inggris dianggap efektif, terutama karena integrasi teori dan praktik dan penggunaan materi terkait militer. Namun, beberapa tantangan diidentifikasi, termasuk kesulitan dalam pengucapan, penguasaan kosakata militer yang terbatas, kurangnya kepercayaan diri dalam berbicara, dan tanggung jawab operasional. Kesimpulannya, meskipun tentara umumnya memiliki persepsi positif tentang efektivitas pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, perbaikan diperlukan untuk mengatasi tantangan linguistik dan psikologis. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa program bahasa Inggris militer di masa depan harus menekankan kegiatan praktis, lingkungan belajar yang mendukung, dan materi yang selaras erat dengan kebutuhan operasional prajurit.

[Undergraduate Thesis. Syiah Kuala University]. Under the supervision of Prof. Iskandar AS, S. Pd., M. App. Ling and Nira Erdiana, S. Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to explore soldiers’ perceptions of the effectiveness and challenges of learning English as a Foreign Language in a military context. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires involving Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) from Aceh who had participated in an Intensive English Course (KIBI) at the RINDAM IM. The data were analyses using model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that soldiers perceive English as an essential skill for military duties, career development, and international communication. The English training program was perceived effective, particularly due to the integration of theory and practice and the use of military-related materials. However, several challenges were identified, including difficulties in pronunciation, limited mastery of military vocabulary, lack of confidence in speaking, and operational responsibilities. In conclusion, although soldiers generally have positive perceptions of the effectiveness of English learning, improvements are needed to address linguistic and psychological challenges. The study suggests that future military English programs should emphasize practical activities, supportive learning environments, and materials that are closely aligned with soldiers’ operational needs.
