Dalam mengajar listening, guru umumnya hanya menggunakan rekaman audio sebagai media dan belum pernah menggunakan video. Penggunaan video memberikan pemahaman yang komprehensif, baik secara linguistik maupun visual, sehingga pembelajaran menjadi lebih mudah dan menyenangkan bagi siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan video dapat meningkatkan pemahaman menyimak siswa terhadap teks recount di kelas delapan SMPN 1 Beutong. Penelitian ini bersifat kuantitatif, dengan desain pra-eksperimental, one-group pre-test post-test. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 21 siswa kelas VIII-1 di SMPN 1 Beutong pada tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan video efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman menyimak siswa. Terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata, dari 45,71 pada pre-test menjadi 63,14 pada post-test. Analisis uji-t menunjukkan bahwa Sig (2-tailed) adalah 0,001, yang lebih kecil dari α = 0,05. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak. Peneliti mengusulkan bahwa penggunaan video adalah metode yang cocok untuk mengajarkan listening karena visual yang menarik, isyarat pendengaran, dan relevansi kontekstual, yang membuatnya lebih mudah dipahami.

In teaching listening, teachers generally only use audio recordings as media and have never applied videos. The use of videos provides a comprehensive understanding, both linguistically and visually, to make learning easier and more enjoyable for students. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of videos can improve students' listening comprehension of recount text in the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Beutong. This research is quantitative, with a pre-experimental, one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample of this study was 21 students of class VIII-1 at SMPN 1 Beutong in the 2023/2024 academic year. The results of this study indicate that the use of videos is effective in improving students' listening comprehension. There was an increase in the mean score, from 45.71 in the pre-test to 63.14 in the post-test. The t-test analysis shows that Sig (2-tailed) is 0.001, which is smaller than α = 0.05. It can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. The researcher proposes that the use of videos is a suitable method for teaching listening because of the attractive visuals, auditory cues, and contextual relevance, which make it much easier to understand.
