Pengetahuan akan konsep geografi sangat diperlukan untuk memahami
hubungan manusia dengan alam. Untuk dapat memahami geografi dengan baik siswa
perlu menguasai konsep dasar yang menjadi landasan berfikir secara geografis, namun
konsep dasar geografi yang bersifat abstrak sangat sulit dipahami oleh siswa. Siswa
kesulitan membedakan bagaimana penggunaan kajian pendekatan keruangan,
kewilayahan dan kelingkungan, sehingga rawan miskonsepsi. Untuk itu perlu upaya
dalam membedakan antara siswa yang paham konsep, miskonsepsi atau bahkan tidak
paham konsep. Tingkat pemahaman konsep siswa tersebut dapat diukur menggunakan
tes diagnostik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tingkat pemahaman
konsep dasar geografi menggunakan four tier diagnostic test disertai certainty of
response index (CRI) siswa kelas X IPAS SMAN 4 Banda Aceh. Jenis penelitian ini
adalah deskriptif yang menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian
ini merupakan seluruh siswa kelas X IPAS SMAN 4 Banda Aceh yang berjumlah 270
siswa. Sampel penelitian diambil sebanyak 15% dari keseluruhan populasi, sehingga
jumlah sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 40 siswa dengan teknik pengambilan sampel
menggunakan simple random sampling. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yang
digunakan yaitu berupa soal pilihan ganda beralasan sebanyak 15 butir soal yang telah
teruji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Tes ini dilengkapi dengan instrumen four tier
diagnostic test yang disertai CRI. Hasil analisis dan pengolahan data menunjukkan
bahwa tingkat pemahaman konsep dasar geografi siswa kelas X IPAS SMAN 4 Banda
Aceh yang dikategorikan paham konsep (PK) sebanyak 39,5%, siswa yang tidak
paham konsep (TPK) 24,5%, siswa yang mengalami miskonsepsi (M) 28%, dan error
(E) 8%. Tingkat pemahaman siswa dikategorikan gagal dikarenakan skor persentase
paham konsep yang diperoleh dibawah 45% dari total keseluruhan siswa.

Knowledge of geographic concepts is very necessary to understand human relationship with nature. To be able to understand geography well students need to master the basic concepts that are the basis for thinking geographically, however The basic abstract concepts of geography are very difficult for students to understand. Student difficulty distinguishing how to use spatial approach studies, regional and environmental, so it is prone to misconceptions. For that it takes effort in distinguishing between students who understand the concept, have misconceptions or even not understand the concept. The level of students' understanding of the concept can be measured using diagnostic test. This research aims to identify the level of understanding basic geographic concepts using four tier diagnostic tests accompanied by certainty of response index (CRI) of class X Science and Technology students at SMAN 4 Banda Aceh. This type of research is descriptive which uses a quantitative approach. Population in research These are all 270 students of class X Science and Technology at SMAN 4 Banda Aceh student. The research sample was taken as 15% of the total population, so The number of samples in this study was 40 students using sampling techniques using simple random sampling. The data collection techniques are: The method used is in the form of reasoned multiple choice questions with 15 questions its validity and reliability have been tested. This test is equipped with a four tier instrument diagnostic test accompanied by CRI. The results of analysis and data processing show that the level of understanding of basic geographic concepts of class X Science and Technology students at SMAN 4 Banda Aceh is categorized as understanding the concept (PK) as much as 39.5%, students who do not understand the concept (TPK) 24.5%, students who experience misconceptions (M) 28%, and errors (E) 8%. The student's level of understanding is categorized as failing due to the percentage score Under 45% of the total students understand the concepts obtained.
