Grammar plays an important role in teaching English. Student learning outcomes at SMPN 8 Banda Aceh is still low, especially in grammar mastery in reading comprehension. The objectives of this is to find out whether the use of Crossword Puzzle Game can improve students’ reading comprehension in learning English grammar and to describe the students’ significant improvement of part of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, and adjective) after using crossword puzzle in reading comprehension at the first semester of the eight grade of SMPN 8 Banda Aceh in 2021/2022 academic year. The research methodology was a pre-experimental research that uses a one group pre-test posttest design. The population is all the students of class VIII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh which totaled 30 students and selected by purposive sampling. The instrument of this research is 20 multiple choice questions. The researcher analyzed the research results using SPSS. The result of data analysis is show that the mean score of pre-test is 55, 0% while the post-test score was 77, 17%. While t-table has a significance of 0.05/2 = 0.025 (two-tailed test) where get a t-table of 2,048. The test criteria t-count > from t-table or -6.385 > 2.048 at a significance level of (a) 5%. From the result of the study, it was found that the percentage of the aspect (noun, pronoun, verb and adjective) in posttest was better than before, such as noun is 29.8%, pronoun is 29%, verb is 57.9% and adjective is 47.5%. Therefore, it can be said that the implementation of crossword puzzle game in learning can improve grammar skills through these aspects.
