Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki apakah penggunaan referensi silang pasangan minimal dalam pengajaran pengucapan bahasa Inggris dapat meningkatkan pengucapan siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pra eksperimen. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan satu kelas siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen. Penelitian dilakukan di kelas II SMPN 2 Mesjid Raya yang terdiri dari 26 siswa. Peneliti memberikan pre-test, treatment dan post-test di Kelas VIII-2 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pelafalan siswa setelah mereka diajar dengan menggunakan teknik pasangan minimal referensi silang. Sebagian besar nilai pelafalan siswa pada post-test meningkat jauh dibandingkan dengan nilai mereka pada pre-test. Nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 46, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test adalah 79, sehingga ada peningkatan 33 poin pada post-test. Berdasarkan hasil uji-t diketahui bahwa thitung (16,421) lebih besar dari ttabel (2,060), sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan referensi silang pasangan minimal sebagai teknik dalam mengajar pengucapan secara statistik dapat meningkatkan pengucapan siswa secara signifikan. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, direkomendasikan bahwa referensi silang pasangan minimal sebagai teknik dalam pengajaran pengucapan digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pengucapan siswa.

The purpose of this research is to investigate whether the use of cross-referencing minimal pair in teaching English pronunciation can improve students’ pronunciation. The method used in this research is pre-experimental research. In this research, the researcher used one class of student as experimental class. The research was conducted at the second grade of SMPN 2 Mesjid Raya which consists of 26 students. The researcher gave pre-test, treatment and post-test in Class VIII-2 as an experimental class. The result of the research showed that there was an improvement in the students’ pronunciation after they were taught by using the technique of cross-referencing minimal pair. Most of the students' pronunciation scores in the post-test increased considerably compared to their scores in the pre-test. The students’ mean score of the pre-test is 46, while the mean score of the post-test is 79, so there is an increase of 33 points in the post-test. Based on the results of the t-test, it was found that ttest (16.421) was higher than ttable (2.060), so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that the use of cross-referencing minimal pair as a technique in teaching pronunciation can statisfically improve students’ pronunciation in a significant way. Based on the findings of the research, it is recommended that cross-referencing minimal pair as a technique in teaching pronunciation is used to improve student’ pronunciation ability.
