Abstract Name : Nurul Rizka Student No. : 1806202020004 Study Program : Master Degree in English Education Department : English Education Title : An Analysis of Lecturers’ Barriers toward The Use of Online Learning Platforms in Teaching English Language (A Case Study at State Islamic University of Ar-Raniry) Keyword : Lecturers’ Barriers, Online Learning Platforms, Teaching English Language The objectives of this research were to describe the barriers faced by English lecturers toward the use of online learning platforms in teaching English language at UIN ArRaniry and the strategies they applied to overcome those barriers. This mixed methods study combined both quantitative and qualitative methods for data inquiry. A total of 14 English lecturers of UIN Ar-Raniry participated in this research. The data were collected through an online questionnaire, an interviews guide and an observation field note. The questionnaire was used for the quantitative data and was analyzed by using the descriptive statistic of Microsoft Excel. Meanwhile, the observation and the interview were the primary sources for the qualitative data and were analyzed based on Miles et al.’s (2014) three stages data analysis. The results point out the common barriers faced by English lecturers toward the use of online learning platforms in teaching English language, such as lack of adaption on teaching style, lack of time management, poor quality of internet connection, etc. To overcome those barriers, so far the lecturers have practiced different solutions, such as trying different styles of teaching, creating other discussion group on another platforms, and choosing appropriate tools for a certain course, etc.
