The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the recent tsunami sediments on soil radon concentration in relation to human health. In this study radon monitoring in soil was carried out by using Monitor Radon Type 1027 produced by Sun Nuclear Corporation. USA. Results obtained show the mean radon concentration in the study area is 0.555 pci/L, Which is still in normal limits. The average values found in the different sites do not exceed 1.0 pCifL. The values are very few and none of them overcome a value of hazardous (4 pC i/l). For this reason, it can be assumed that. the radon levels in the study area are within acceptable values for the population and not causing significant radiological risk. It can be also interpreted that the radon concentrations as due primarily to the local sediments. These observations suggest that radon measurements in the study areas arc controlled by the soils of sand} clay and sands. and demonstrate the similar condition of radon data acquisition before and after tsunami. Nevertheless. the results suggest a possible independence of the radon concentration on tsunami (marine) sediments.
