This library study discussed about using activating background to improve students ability in reading narrative text. The objective of this study is to find out how the implementation of activating students background knowledge in learning can improve students' ability in reading comprehension of narrative text, to elaborate the implementation of activating students background knowledge based on the previous research findings. This research has a scope that only focused on the implementation of activating students' background knowledge to improve reading comprehension in narrative text. The material of this study was taken from library research and accessed form the internet. The method used in this study was library study. This study revealed the use of direct method in reading narrative text is a great technique. Background activation points out the readers to comprehend better when they actively think about and apply their knowledge of the topic, their own experiences, and the world around them, and they are done by using questions, here the questions' role as a key to the knowledge that the students' alreday had. Based on this finding, the use of activation background cart improve students' ability in comprehending narrative text. It is suggested for teacher to use this method regularly.
