This thesis is under the title "Applying Storytelling to Improve Listening Skill of Young Learners". Storytelling is one of activities that can help the student' in improving listening skill since storytelling is a likeable activity for young learners and it helps them to concentrate. As a reason that concentration is needed in listening skill and young learners are easier to concentrate with something they like. such as listening to story, the writer conducted the study with the aim of finding out the effectiveness of applying storytelling in improving students' ability in listening. To obtain the data for this study, the writer conducted an experimental study at SDIT Nurul Ishlah Banda Aceh. The fifth grade students were taken as the subject of this study. The writer divided the class into two group, experimental group and control group, and every group has 30 students. In the experimental group, the writer applied storytelling in teaching English listening skill, but she did not apply it in the control group. The students' achievement was tested by using test; pretest and posttest. Pretest was conducted before the experiment in order to know the students' score before the treatment. On the contrary, posttest was conducted to know the students' achievement after the treatment. To find the result of this study, the writer used T- score. The result showed that the mean score of the pretest experimental group is
53.1 4 and the mean score of the pretest control group is 59.78. Then the mean score of the posttest experimental group is 67.57and the mean score of the posttest control group is 69.57. The result of T-score is 0,65. The critical value of t-table at the level significant 0,05 is 2,00 and at the level or significant 0,0 I is 2,65 with the degree of freedom 60. Since. the result oft-test is lower than t-table. the alternative hypothesis is rejected and the null hypothesis is accepted. Nevertheless, since the experimental group is also improve their score in posttest much more than in the pretest, technically it still proved that the applying of storytelling is effective to improve students' ability in listening skill.
