Title : The Use of Picture Media in Developing Students’ Achievement in Writing Skill

Keywords: picture media, recount text and writing.

This research is about devoloping students’ ability in writing recount text through picture media. The objective of this research is to know whether there is any developing of students’ writing ability after they are taught through picture media in teaching writing and to know which aspects of writing increase more after they are taught through picture media in teaching writing. The methodology of this research was quantitative experimental research, that was one group pretest-posttest design. The subject of this research was the second grader of 17 students. In completing the research, the researcher used written test as an instrument of collecting data. It was found that using picture media in teachingwriting developed the students’ writing of recount text. To prove the hypothesis, the writer used t-score formula. Based on the data analysis, the t-score was 3.241 meanwhile t-table was 2.120. It means that the obtained t-score is higher than t-table. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The writer concludes that teaching recount text through teaching writing with picture media can develop the students’ ability in every aspects of writing; organization, content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics.
