The results of this study revealed that six types of elicitations including elicit:inform, elicit:confirm, elicit:agree, elicit:commit, elicit:repeat, and elicit:clarify were exploited by the lecturers in teaching speaking. Further, the pattern of the elicitation exchange in speaking class covers 16 patterns in whichIRF (Initiation, Response, and Follow-up) original structure was the most commonly organized around the sequence. It also consisted of Ib expansion in the IRF model where the lecturers used nomination, rephrasing, clues when they get no responses or incorrect answer. Further, elicit:inform was the most frequent type of elicitation used by the lecturers in speaking class. It took the highest frequency of use with the total number 359 out of 479 which reached 72.23%. This indicates that the lecturers frequently used elicitation to invite students to speak English.
