Title :The Use of Role Audience Format and Topic (RAFT) Technique in Improving Students’ Writing Skill ( An Experimental Research at SMPN 3 Banda Aceh)

This study aims at proving whether the use of RAFT technique can improve students’ writing skill or not. It focused on how the students produced letter especially friendly letter as one of short functional text types taught in Junior High School within Indonesian EFL context. In order to cope with the difficulties encountered by the students in writing, pre experimental study of one group pretest-posttest design employed by using purposive sampling. To collect the data in this study, the researcher administrated the test in the form of written test to elicit the data related to students’ writing ability. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic to depict the attained data and inferential statistic to prove the research hypothesis. From the results of data, it revealed that the mean score of posttest was higher than the mean score of pretest (77.9>42.2) as well as the value of t-test was higher than t-value (7.64>1.694). It implicitly means that the use of RAFT technique had given the significant impact on the improvement of the difficulties faced by the students in writing a letter especially friendly letter.
