This study aimed on applying the Dictogloss technique in teaching listening. The
objective of this study was to identify if the technique efficient in teaching
English listening to the 12th grade students at SMAN 5 Banda Aceh. The method
used in this study was experimental research method with ?=0.05. The samples of
this study were 32 students of the 12th grade at SMAN 5 Banda Aceh. These
students were grouped into the Experimental group and the Control group. Before
implementing the technique, each group was given a pretest; and after the
implementation, a post-test was again administered for both groups. The pretest
and posttest consisted of ten questions which they had to answer after listening to
some dialogues. The data were analyzed statistically. The data were considered
normal and homogenous. From the t-test, it was obtained that the critical area is 2.03
until

2.03. the t-test value from post-test between the Experimental and the
Control groups is 0.92 which certainly lies within the critical area. In conclusion,
the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted.
Hence, Dictogloss is an effective technique to use in improving the students’
ability in listening.

Studi ini bertujuan pada penerapan teknik Dictogloss dalam pengajaran
mendengar. Objektif riset ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahwa teknik Dictogloss
berfungsi baik dalam mengajarkan mendengar kepada siswa kelas 12 di SMAN 5
Banda Aceh. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental riset
dengan ?=0.05. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa kelas 12 SMAN 5
Banda Aceh yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yakni kelompok eksperimen dan
kelompok Kontrol. Sebelum penerapan tehnik ini, diadakan pretest untuk kedua
grup, dan setelah penerapan tehnik ke grup eksperimental, diberikan post-test
untuk kedua grup.Pretest dan post-test terdiri dari 10 pertanyaan yang harus siswa
jawab setelah mereka mendengarkan audio dialog. Data hasil penelitian diolah
secara manual. Data yang didapat merupaka data yang berdistribusi normal dan
homogen. Dari hasil analisa didapat bahwa daerah kritis untuk sampel penelitian
ini adalah -2.03 sampai 2.03. Dari perhitungan t-test post-test kedua grup didapat
index t 0.92 yang tentunya berada didalam rentang daerah kritis. Bisa disimpulkan
bahwa hipotesis nul ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima. Maka, Dictoglos
adalah tehnik yang efektif untuk mengembangkan kemampuan siswa dalam
mendengar.
