Title : The Use of Dialogue Journal in Teaching Writing Recount
Text (An Experimental Study of the First Grade Students of SMAN
3 Putra Bangsa Lhoksukon)

The study is intended to find out whether the dialogue journal technique can
improve the students’ writing of recount text. This research was conducted at
SMAN 3 Putra Bangsa Lhoksukon. The writer used experimental quantitative
research. The sample chosen in this study was class X-IPA1 by using random
sampling. The writer used one group pre-test post-test design. For the technique of
data collection, the writer administered pre-test, treatment and post-test. The mean
score of pre-test was 64 and the post-test was 80. The finding shows that the
improvement of the mean was 16. Besides, the result of calculation of t -test was
3.7, while the critical value of 0.05 significant levels was 1.72 and degree of
freedom was 19. T-test (3.7) was higher than t-table (1.72). It can be concluded that
dialogue journal technique can improve of recount text. Thus, this research
suggests that dialogue journal might be one of an alternative technique students’
writing in teaching writing skill at school.
