Sebelum analisis SPCA dilakukan, data diuji menggunakan Bartlett's Test of Sphericity, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO), dan Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA).

Stock volatility is a measure of stock price fluctuations and serves as an important indicator in assessing investment risk. The high correlation among banking stocks leads to multicollinearity, requiring a dimensionality reduction method capable of producing interpretable principal components. This study aims to classify the volatility levels of ten Indonesian banking stocks during the 2019 to 2022 period based on monthly return data using Sparse Principal Component Analysis (SPCA) and to apply SPCA for dimensionality reduction. Prior to the SPCA analysis, the data were evaluated using Bartlett's Test of Sphericity, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, and the Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA). The number of principal components was first determined using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), followed by SPCA with several values of the tuning parameter α to obtain the optimal model. The results indicate that the best model was obtained at α = 1.18, producing four principal components with a cumulative explained variance of 75.00%. The first component consists of BBCA, BBRI, BMRI, BBNI, and PNBN, representing low-volatility stocks. The second component consists of BRIS, BJBR, and BNLI, representing high-volatility stocks. The third component consists of MEGA, representing a very low-volatility stock, while the fourth component consists of BINA, representing a very high-volatility stock. These findings demonstrate that SPCA effectively reduces data dimensionality while producing a sparse loading structure, making the relationships among banking stocks easier to interpret.
