The coffee berry borer (*Hypothenemus hampei* Ferr.) is a major pest of Arabica coffee (*Coffea arabica* L.) that can reduce both the quantity and quality of the harvest. The infestation level and population development of this pest are influenced by agroecosystem conditions, such as altitude, vegetation, and microclimate. Coffee plantations bordering lakes and forests possess distinct environmental characteristics that are hypothesized to affect infestation levels and pest populations. However, information regarding the impact of these agroecosystem differences on coffee berry borer infestation and populations in Central Aceh Regency remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the infestation symptoms, infestation levels, and pest populations in Arabica coffee plantations situated in lake and forest agroecosystems. The study was conducted from April to May 2026 at two Arabica coffee plantations: one near Lake Laut Tawar in Genuren Village and another bordering a forest area in Dedamar Village, Bintang District, Central Aceh Regency. A survey method was employed, with sampling conducted at each location on two occasions—April and May. Observed parameters included infestation symptoms, infestation levels, and pest populations within the coffee berries (comprising larval, pupal, and adult stages). Data were analyzed using the Z-test to compare infestation levels and pest populations between the two agroecosystems. The results showed that infestation symptoms were characterized by boreholes on the disc or body of the coffee berry, often accompanied by boring dust. Damage to the coffee beans ranged from minor endosperm damage to destruction of both beans within a single berry. The infestation level was higher in the forest agroecosystem than in the lake agroecosystem at both observation times, a difference that was statistically significant according to the Z-test. Conversely, the pest population within the coffee berries was higher in the lake agroecosystem than in the forest agroecosystem. Significant differences were observed in the populations of pupae, adults, and the total population, whereas the larval population did not differ significantly between the two agroecosystems. The results indicate that the forest agroecosystem is more conducive to the occurrence of coffee berry borer (CBB) infestation, while the lake agroecosystem is more favorable for the development of CBB populations within the coffee fruit. Thus, differences in agroecosystem characteristics influence the infestation levels and population dynamics of the coffee berry borer on Arabica coffee plants.
