Homesickness merupakan kondisi emosional yang muncul akibat keterpisahan dari rumah, keluarga, dan lingkungan asal sehingga menimbulkan perasaan rindu, kesepian, serta kesulitan menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungan baru. Kondisi ini banyak dialami oleh mahasiswa baru perantau pada masa transisi menuju kehidupan perguruan tinggi dan berpotensi memengaruhi kemampuan adaptasi akademik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh homesickness terhadap kemampuan adaptasi akademik mahasiswa baru perantau Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 453 mahasiswa baru perantau Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala tahun akademik 2025/2026, dengan sampel sebanyak 212 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner skala Likert dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat homesickness mahasiswa berada pada kategori sedang sebesar 68,87%, sedangkan kemampuan adaptasi akademik berada pada kategori sedang sebesar 65,09%. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,011 (p < 0,05) dengan koefisien regresi sebesar -0,256, yang berarti homesickness berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan adaptasi akademik mahasiswa baru perantau Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Nilai koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 3,0% menunjukkan bahwa homesickness memberikan kontribusi sebesar 3,0% terhadap kemampuan adaptasi akademik, sedangkan 97,0% sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat homesickness yang dialami mahasiswa, maka semakin rendah kemampuan adaptasi akademiknya. Sebaliknya, semakin rendah tingkat homesickness, maka semakin baik kemampuan adaptasi akademik mahasiswa baru perantau Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Syiah Kuala. Temuan penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar bagi pengembangan pendampingan mahasiswa baru perantau serta kajian lebih lanjut mengenai psychological well-being dalam adaptasi akademik.

Homesickness is an emotional condition that arises from separation from home, family, and one's familiar environment, resulting in feelings of longing, loneliness, and difficulty adjusting to a new environment. This condition is commonly experienced by first-year students who study away from their hometowns during the transition to university life and may affect their academic adjustment. This study aimed to examine the effect of homesickness on the academic adjustment of first-year migrant students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University. This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational research design. The population consisted of 453 first-year migrant students enrolled at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University, in the 2025/2026 academic year. A total of 212 respondents were selected using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed through simple linear regression. The results indicated that the level of homesickness was predominantly in the moderate category (68.87%), while academic adjustment was also predominantly in the moderate category (65.09%). Hypothesis testing revealed a significance value of 0.011 (p < 0.05) with a regression coefficient of -0.256, indicating that homesickness had a negative and significant effect on the academic adjustment of first-year migrant students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 3.0%, indicating that homesickness contributed 3.0% to academic adjustment, while the remaining 97.0% was explained by factors outside the scope of this study. It can be concluded that the higher the level of homesickness experienced by students, the lower their academic adjustment. Conversely, lower levels of homesickness are associated with better academic adjustment among first-year migrant students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a basis for developing support programs for first-year migrant students and for further research on psychological well-being in the context of academic adjustment.
