This study aims to determine the abundance and characteristics of microplastics in water and sediments in Lake Aneuk Laot, Sabang. Water and sediment samples were analyzed based on type, color, and size using a microscope, while polymer identification was performed using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The results showed that the highest abundance of microplastics was found in water at 11.8 particles/L and in sediment at 148 particles/kg. The forms of microplastics found in water and sediment were fibers, fragments, films, foam, and pellets. The colors of microplastics found in water samples were black, brown, yellow, and blue, while those in sediment samples were black, brown, green, yellow, and blue. The highest microplastic size in air and sediment samples was in the range of 20-40 μm. types of polymers found in water and sediment samples were Nylon, Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), Polypropylene (PP), High-density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
