Perkembangan sulam tangan umumnya terletak pada teknik dan motifnya, sehingga
media sulaman atau tempat sulaman terbatas pada bahan kain, hal tersebut memberi
peluang besar terhadap inovasi baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan menciptakan produk
kerajinan yang inovatif dan memperkenalkan motif Aceh selain motif yang sudah
dikenal oleh masyarakat diluar Aceh dengan pemanfaatan plastik mika. Penelitian
ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian eksperimen terapan untuk mendapatkan data
mengenai desain dan membuat hiasan dinding sulam pada plastik mika. Pendekatan
yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Pendekatan kualitatif
digunakan untuk mendapatkan data mengenai tanggapan informan terhadap hiasan
dinding dalam penelitian ini. Subjek pada penelitian ini dipilih berdasarkan teknik
purposive sampling. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan eksperimen pembuatan hiasan
dinding dengan teknik sulam pada plastik mika. Setelah eksperimen, dilakukan
wawancara kepada para informan agar dapat mengetahui tanggapan terhadap hasil
eksperimen. Subjek dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas 5 (lima) orang, yaitu 3 (tiga)
praktisi sulam dan 2 (dua) pengrajin hiasan dinding. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan
bahwa desain rangkaian motif Aceh tersebut dinilai unik dan berbeda oleh para
informan, sehingga menunjukkan bahwa desain yang dihasilkan memiliki nilai
estetika dan keunikan. Penggunaan plastik mika dalam membuat sulam sebagai
inovasi bahan baru selain kain dinilai unik dan berpotensi besar oleh para informan,
terkhusus pada penempatan motif dan penggunaan plastik mika. Berdasarkan hasil
penelitian dan tanggapan para informan menunjukkan bahwa pemakaian plastik
mika sebagai media sulam atau tempat sulam dinilai berhasil menjadi inovasi yang
unik dalam memanfaatkan bahan selain kain serta hasil sulaman yang berdimensi
memberi tampilan baru dari kerajinan sulam pada umumnya.

The development of hand embroidery generally lies in its techniques and motifs, so that the embroidery media or embroidery place is limited to cloth materials, this provides a great opportunity for new innovations. This study aims to create innovative craft products and introduce Acehnese motifs in addition to motifs already known to people outside Aceh by utilizing mica plastic. This research is included in the type of applied experimental research. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were selected based on a purposive sampling technique. This study was conducted by experimenting with making wall decorations using embroidery techniques on mica plastic. After the experiment, interviews were conducted with informants to obtain responses to the results of the experiment. The subjects in this study consisted of 5 (five) people, namely 3 (three) embroidery craftsmen and 2 (two) wall decoration craftsmen. The results of the study show that the design of the Acehnese motif series is considered unique and different by the informants, thus indicating that the resulting design has aesthetic value and uniqueness. The use of mica plastic in making embroidery as an innovation of new materials other than cloth is considered unique and has great potential by the informants, especially in the placement of motifs and the use of mica plastic. Based on the research results and responses from informants, it shows that the use of mica plastic as an embroidery medium or embroidery place is considered successful as a unique innovation in utilizing materials other than cloth and the dimensional embroidery results provide a new appearance from embroidery crafts in general.
