Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menelaah penggunaan teknik Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) sebagai pendekatan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca teks deskriptif siswa kelas VII MTsS Keutapang Dua. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimen kuantitatif, dengan data yang dikumpulkan melalui tes sebagai instrumen utama. Dua jenis tes digunakan, yaitu pretest dan posttest, yang keduanya berbentuk pilihan ganda. Populasi penelitian ini mencakup seluruh siswa kelas VII pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025, dengan satu kelas yang dipilih secara tujuan tertentu (purposive sampling) sebagai sampel penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan prestasi siswa setelah diberikan treatment menggunakan teknik CIRC. Hal ini dibuktikan dari nilai rata-rata posttest yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai pretest, yaitu 70,47 > 27,14. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data menggunakan uji-t, diperoleh nilai t-value yang lebih besar daripada t-table (20,555 > 2,085), yang berarti Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik CIRC efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa.
This study was conducted to investigate the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique as a framework for enhancing students’ reading skill of descriptive text at first-grade of MTsS Keutapang Dua. A quantitative experimental design was employed, and data were collected using tests as the primary instrument. Two types of tests were administered: a pretest and a posttest, both in the form of multiple-choice questions. The population of this study consisted of all first-grade students in the academic year 2024/2025, from which one class was purposively selected as the sample. The findings indicated that there was an improvement of students’ achievement after carrying out treatment using the CIRC. It was proved from a posttest mean value greater than the pretest value of 70.47>27.14. Based on the calculation of the results of data analysis using t-test showing at t-value more than t-table 20.555 > 2.085, which means Ho is rejected and the Ha is accepted. In conclusion, the use of CIRC was effective in improving students’ reading skill.
