Kesehatan mental merupakan aspek penting dalam kualitas hidup manusia, namun sering
kali masih kurang mendapatkan perhatian serius, khususnya di Aceh Besar. Minimnya
fasilitas khusus yang dapat mendukung proses pemulihan dan terapi bagi individu dengan
gangguan mental menyebabkan perlunya perancangan pusat terapi yang representatif,
nyaman, serta sesuai dengan kebutuhan psikologis penggunanya. Penelitian ini merancang
sebuah Pusat Terapi Mental di Aceh Besar dengan menggunakan tema arsitektur biophilic,
yaitu pendekatan desain yang berupaya menghadirkan keterhubungan manusia dengan alam
ke dalam lingkungan binaan. Metode perancangan dilakukan melalui studi literatur, analisis
tapak, studi banding objek sejenis, serta pendekatan kebutuhan ruang dan perilaku
pengguna. Penerapan arsitektur biophilic dalam rancangan diwujudkan melalui tiga
pendekatan utama menurut Kellert, yaitu direct experience of nature, indirect experience of
nature, serta experience of space and place.
Hasil perancangan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan elemen alami, penggunaan material yang
ramah lingkungan, penciptaan hubungan ruang dalam dan luar, serta penguatan sense of
place mampu memberikan suasana yang menenangkan, mendukung proses terapi, dan
meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman ruang bagi pasien maupun pengunjung. Dengan
demikian, pusat terapi mental ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai fasilitas pemulihan, tetapi
juga sebagai wadah rekreatif dan edukatif yang dapat mengurangi stigma terhadap kesehatan
mental di masyarakat Aceh Besar.

Mental health is a crucial aspect of human quality of life, yet it often receives limited attention, particularly in Aceh Besar. The lack of specialized facilities to support recovery and therapy for individuals with mental disorders highlights the urgency of designing a representative and comfortable mental therapy center that meets the psychological needs of its users. This study proposes the design of a Mental Therapy Center in Aceh Besar using the theme of biophilic architecture, a design approach that seeks to reconnect humans with nature within the built environment. The design process was carried out through literature review, site analysis, comparative studies of similar facilities, and an examination of space requirements based on user behavior. The application of biophilic architecture in the design is realized through three main approaches defined by Kellert, namely direct experience of nature, indirect experience of nature, and experience of space and place. The design results indicate that the integration of natural elements, the use of environmentally friendly materials, the creation of strong connections between indoor and outdoor spaces, and the enhancement of sense of place can provide a calming atmosphere, support therapeutic processes, and improve spatial experiences for both patients and visitors. Therefore, this mental therapy center not only functions as a recovery facility but also serves as a recreational and educational space that helps reduce stigma toward mental health in the Aceh Besar community.
