ABSTRACT The high dropout rate among university students has become a critical issue in higher education, including at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Universitas Syiah Kuala. One psychological factor believed to contribute significantly to academic persistence is self-efficacy, defined as an individual’s belief in their ability to handle and complete academic tasks. This study aims to measure students’ levels of self-efficacy and intent to stay, as well as to examine the influence of self-efficacy on intent to stay. The research employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative design. A total of 375 FKIP students were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using a validated and reliable Likert-scale questionnaire. Descriptive analysis revealed that 61% of students had a high to very high level of self-efficacy. Similarly, 84% of students demonstrated a high to very high intent to stay in continuing their studies. Results from simple linear regression analysis indicated that self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on intent to stay (sig. = 0.000), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.875. This means that 87.5% of the variance in intent to stay can be explained by self-efficacy. These findings suggest that the higher a student's self-efficacy, the stronger their intention to persist and complete their education at FKIP Universitas Syiah Kuala. Therefore, enhancing self-efficacy through guidance and counseling services, as well as the integration of challenge-based learning approaches, is highly recommended to support student success.
