Penyakit yang menyerang kuda dapat disebabkan oleh virus, bakteri maupun parasit. Parasit dapat disebabkan oleh cacing, protozoa, dan arthropoda. Kuda terinfeksi penyakit parasit gastrointestinal dapat membahayakan dan memperburuk kondisi kesehatan hewan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya infeksi parasit gastrointestinal pada kuda terdapat Kota Bukittinggi, Sumatera Barat. Sampel penelitian ini menggunakan feses segar 117 ekor kuda. Sampel yang telah dikoleksi ditambahkan formalin 10% kemudian dimasukan ke dalam botol sampel yang kemudian diperiksa di Laboratorium Parasitologi Balai Veteriner Bukittinggi untuk dilakukan pemeriksaan. Sampel diperiksa dengan menggunakan metode apung, metode sedimentasi, metode sedimentasi formol ether, dan metode modified Ziehl-Neelsen. Data yang diperoleh ditabulasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 117 ekor kuda yang diperiksa, 96 ekor kuda terinfeksi parasit gastrointestinal dengan prevalensi 82,1%. Sebanyak 70 ekor mengalami infeksi tunggal, 21 ekor terinfeksi secara ganda, dan 5 ekor mengalami multi infeksi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini ditemukannya parasit dari golongan nematoda (Strongylus sp., Trichostrongylus axei, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi, dan Cyathostoma sp.) dari golongan cestoda (Moniezia sp.) dan protozoa (Eimeria sp. dan Entamoeba sp).

Diseases affecting horses can be caused by viruses, bacteria or parasites. Parasites can be caused by worms, protozoa and arthropods. Horses infected with gastrointestinal parasitic diseases can endanger and worsen animal health conditions. This study aims to determine the presence or absence of gastrointestinal parasite infections in horses in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra. The samples of this study used fresh feces of 117 horses. Samples that have been collected are added with 10% formalin and then put into sample bottles which are then examined at the Parasitology Laboratory of the Bukittinggi Veterinary Center for examination. Samples were examined using the floating method, sedimentation method, formol ether sedimentation method, and modified Ziehl-Neelsen method. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that out of 117 horses examined, 96 horses were infected with gastrointestinal parasites with a prevalence of 82.1%.. A total of 70 horses had a single infection, 21 horses had multiple infections, and 5 horses had multiple infections. The conclusion of this study found parasites from the nematode group (Strongylus sp., Trichostrongylus axei, Dictyocaulus arnfieldi, and Cyathostoma sp.) from the cestode group (Moniezia sp.) and protozoa (Eimeria sp. and Entamoeba sp).
