Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi masalah spesifik yang dialami siswa kelas sebelas di SMAIT AWJA ketika mempelajari kosakata. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 32 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kualitatif, yang menerapkan karakteristik studi kasus. Untuk memperoleh data, peneliti menggunakan kuesioner sebagai instrumen penelitian. Seluruh data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa masih menghadapi masalah atau kesulitan dalam pembelajaran kosakata. Kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa dalam pembelajaran kosakata bermacam-macam. Jenis kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa adalah (1) Pengucapan (55,5%), (2) ejaan (44,5%), (3) makna (42,2%), dan yang terakhir (4) tata bahasa (43,8%). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas XI SMAIT AWJA mengalami kesulitan tertinggi pada pengucapan, kemudian ejaan setelah itu tata bahasa dan terakhir makna. Beberapa faktor penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata adalah (1) bentuk tulisan berbeda dengan bentuk lisan dalam bahasa Inggris, (2) kata diam, (3) kata yang mempunyai banyak arti, dan (4) bentuk kata kerja dan preposisi.

Under the supervision Prof. Dr. Zulfadli A. Aziz, S. Pd., M. A. and Drs. Syamsul Bahri YS, M.A. The objective of this research is to identify the specific problems that eleventh-grade students at SMAIT AWJA experience when studying vocabulary. The subject of this study consist of 32 students. This study employed a qualitative research design, implementing characteristics of a case study. For obtaining the data, the researcher used questionnaire as a research instrument. All the data were analyzed descriptively. The findings showed that the students still faced the problems or difficulties in vocabulary learning. The difficulties faced by students in vocabulary learning were various. Kinds of difficulties faced by the students were (1) Pronunciation (55.5%), (2) spelling (44.5%), (3) meaning (42.2%), and the last (4) grammar (43.8%). Based on the research result, it can be concluded that the eleventh grade students at SMAIT AWJA experienced the highest difficulty in pronunciation, then spelling after that grammar and finally meaning. Some factors causing students difficulties in learning vocabulary were (1) the written form is different from the spoken form in English, (2) silent words, (3) words with multiple meaning, and (4) verb form and preposition.
