Kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif yang rendah pada siswa adalah fenomena yang diamati di sekolah menengah pertama. Salah satu strategi yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks deskriptif adalah strategi Point, Illustration, Explanation (PIE). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah strategi Point, Illustration, Explanation (PIE) efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa kelas sembilan di SMPN 1 Darussalam. Hipotesis dalam penelitian ini adalah, Ho: Penerapan strategi pembelajaran PIE (point, illustration, explanation) tidak secara efektif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks deskriptif, Ha: Penerapan strategi pembelajaran PIE (point, illustration, explanation) secara efektif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan menggunakan desain pre-test post-test satu kelompok. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas sembilan di SMPN 1 Darussalam, dengan sampel satu kelas (kelas eksperimen) yang dipilih melalui random sampling dari empat kelas yang ada. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. Hasil pre-test dan post-test dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan uji hipotesis. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, ditemukan bahwa (1) terdapat peningkatan skor rata-rata dari pre-test ke post-test, dari 49,83 menjadi 69,30, dan (2) terdapat pula peningkatan skor rata-rata untuk indikator menulis, dengan penggunaan bahasa meningkat sebesar 6,06, konten sebesar 5,1, kosakata sebesar 3,84, organisasi sebesar 3,27, dan mekanik sebesar 0,7. (3) Berdasarkan hasil uji T sampel berpasangan, nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) adalah 0,000, yang lebih kecil dari 0,05 (0,000 < 0,05), yang menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi pembelajaran PIE (Point, Illustration, Explanation) secara efektif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks deskriptif.

The low ability of students in writing descriptive texts is a phenomenon observed in junior high schools. One strategy that can enhance students' writing skills in descriptive texts is the Point, Illustration, Explanation (PIE) strategy. This study aims to determine whether the PIE method is effective in improving the descriptive text writing skills of ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Darussalam. Hypothesis in this research, Ho : The application of PIE (point, illustration, explanation) as a learning strategy does not effectively improve students’ writing skills in descriptive text, Ha: The application of PIE (point, illustration, explanation) as a learning strategy effectively improve students’ writing skills in descriptive text. The research is a pre-experimental study using a one-group pre-test post-test design. The population of this study comprises all ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Darussalam, with a sample of one class (the experimental class) selected through random sampling from the four available classes. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests. The results from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing. Based on the research findings, it was found that (1) there was an increase in the average score from the pre-test to the post-test, from 49.83 to 69.30, and (2) there was also an increase in the average scores for the writing indicators, with language use increasing by 6.06, content by 5.1, vocabulary by 3.84, organization by 3.27, and mechanics by 0.7.(3) based on the results of the paired sample T-test, the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.000, which is less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), indicating that the application of the PIE (Point, Illustration, Explanation) as a learning strategy effectively improves students' writing skills in descriptive text.
