Title: Teaching Reading Comprehension by Using Story Grammar Strategy (An Experimental Research at the second Grade Students of SMPNegeri1 Kembang Tanjong)

This study aims at examining whether the use of Story Grammar Strategy can develop students’ reading ability in understanding narrative text. Quantitative approach with experimental study of pretest-postest control group design was undertaken to overcome the problems, they are main idea, vocabulary, reference and detail information. faced by students in learning reading skill. The instrument used to collect the data in this study was by means of the test in the form of multiple choice test. The results of the test was analyzed by using some statistical formula. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant improvement on students’ reading ability after Story Grammar Strategy was implemented. Thus, this strategy can be used by the English teacher as one of alternative strategies in teaching English, particularly teaching reading in EFL class.
