Buku memegang peranan penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Buku teks memberikan peta jalan bagi siswa tentang capaian yang harus dicapai selama masa studi. Penelitian ini mengkaji aktivitas berbicara dalam buku teks Bahasa Inggris untuk Nusantara yang digunakan untuk kelas satu SMP di bawah kurikulum Merdeka. Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, isi buku teks dianalisis. Buku teks Bahasa Inggris untuk Nusantara diterbitkan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, Peraturan Bahasa dan Teknologi dan ditulis oleh Damayanti dkk. (2022). Sumber data penelitian ini adalah buku teks Bahasa Inggris SMP kelas satu. Data dikategorikan ke dalam aktivitas berbicara berdasarkan teori Harmer (2007), seperti Bertindak dari Naskah, Permainan Komunikasi, Diskusi, Ceramah Siap, Kuesioner, Simulasi, dan Bermain Peran. Analisis menunjukkan bahwa jenis aktivitas berbicara dalam buku teks tersebut memiliki lima jenis (Bertindak dari Naskah, Permainan Komunikasi, Diskusi, Ceramah Siap, dan Kuesioner). Hasil lain mengidentifikasi bahwa aktivitas diskusi merupakan aktivitas berbicara yang paling dominan dalam buku teks Bahasa Inggris untuk Nusantara.

Books play an essential role in learning a language. Textbooks provide students with a roadmap of achievements they must accomplish during their studies. This study examines the speaking activities in the English for Nusantara textbook used for the first grade of junior high school for junior high schools under the Merdeka curriculum. Using qualitative descriptive methods, the contents of the textbook were analyzed. English for Nusantara textbook was published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Language and Technology Regulation and written by Damayanti et al. (2022). The data source for this research was the first-grade junior high school English textbook. The data were categorized into speaking activities based on Harmer's theory (2007), such as Acting from Scripts, Communication Games, Discussions, Prepared Talks, Questionnaires, Simulations and Role Playing. The analysis showed that types of speaking activities in that textbook have five types (Acting from Scripts, Communication Games, Discussions, Prepared Talk, and Questionnaires). Another result identified that discussion activities are the most dominant speaking activity in the English for Nusantara textbook.
