Penelitian kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa yang timbul dalam menulis teks eksposisi analitis. Wawancara awal dengan guru mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa kelas XI-6 memperoleh kompetensi paling rendah dalam keterampilan menulis, khususnya analytical exposition text. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memilih 26 siswa siswa kelas sebelas dari kelas XI-6 yang memiliki dominan paling rendah dalam keterampilan menulis dalam analytical exposition text. Para siswa ini diberikan untuk mengikuti tes menulis dan wawancara dengan pertanyaan terbuka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat tiga indikator kesulitan siswa dalam menulis analytical exposition text, yaitu: gramatikal dan mekanika. Selain itu, ada dua faktor yang menyebabkan kesulitan siswa dalam menulis analytical exposition text, sebagai berikut: kurangnya kemampuan dalam keterampilan produksi teks dan kurangnya minat belajar bahasa Inggris.
This qualitative research aims to know the students’ difficulties that cause in writing analytical exposition text. A preliminary interview from the English subject teacher showed that most of XI-6 students obtained the lowest competent in writing skills, especially analytical exposition text. Therefore, the researcher chose 26 students the eleventh-grade students from class XI-6 who was the lowest dominant in writing skills in analytical exposition text. These students were given to take a writing test and interview open-ended questions. The results showed there were three indicators which students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text, there were: grammatical range and mechanics. Besides that, there were two factors that cause students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text, as follows: lack of proficiency in the text production skills and lack of interest in learning English.
