Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis
Teks Explanation menggunakan video YouTube sebagai media mengajar. Penelitian ini mengadaptasi model Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dikemukakan oleh Kemmis dan Taggart diterapkan dengan dua siklus pada siswa kelas 11 SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan 30 siswa kelas XI MIPA 1 sebagai subjek penelitian. Instrument yang digunakan adalah observasi, tes tertulis yang berisi pre-test dan post-test. Pre-test dan post-test diberikan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana kemampuan menulis siswa sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan diberikan. Nilai rata-rata post-test 1 dan post-test 2 lebih tinggi dibandingkan pre-test, kemudian meningkat secara bertahap dari 62,70 pada pre-test,73,30 pada post-test 1, dan 78,80 pada post-test 2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa setelah menerapkan video YouTube sebagai media untuk mengajar menulis teks Explanation terkait gejala alam (Natural Fenomena). Oleh karena itu, hipotesis penelitian ini dapat diterima. Dengan demikian, hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa implementasi video YouTube dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks Explanation di kelas di XI MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh.
Technology plays an important role in people’s lives and can be used effectively for various aspects of education. The YouTube channel is considered a source of online material that can play a vital role in teaching and learning. This research aims to determine whether implementing YouTube videos can improve teachers’ performance, students’ participation, and ability to write explanation text at SMA Negeri 12 Banda Aceh. Classroom action research proposed by Kemmis and Taggart which covers planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting was conducted in XI MIPA 1 with 30 students as research subjects. It was carried out in two cycles with three meetings in each. The data were collected through an observation checklist and writing test. The observation checklist was analyzed quantitatively by using the percentage formula by Hartini (2010). Meanwhile, the writing test was analyzed by calculating and comparing the mean of pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 by using the formula by Siregar (2015), then all the data was described qualitatively. Furthermore, the result of the observation checklist for teacher performance, students’ participation, and writing test showed that the obtained score increased significantly.
