Penelitian ini berfokus pada pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara menggunakan Recording WhatsApp Video Call sebagai treatment dengan menerapkan metode Communicative Language Learning (CLL) untuk siswa kelas 1 SMA di SMA 5 Banda Aceh yang masih memiliki keterampilan berbicara yang kurang baik. Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling dengan berkonsultasi dengan guru bahasa Inggris. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X IPA 3 yang berjumlah 20 siswa. Peneliti melakukan penelitian sequential explanatory mixed-method yang menampilkan analisis deskriptif pengumpulan data kuantitatif dan pemahaman mendalam melalui pengumpulan data kualitatif. Penelitian ini membandingkan hasil pencapaian siswa dalam berbicara sebelum dan sesudah diberikan perlakuan. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes lisan dan wawancara. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus statistik sederhana dan dikumpulkan dari pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata post-test lebih tinggi dari nilai pre-test. Terdapat peningkatan keterampilan berbicara siswa setelah menerapkan metode ini dimana nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 48.75 dan nilai post-test adalah 73.75. Pengujian hipotesis membuktikan bahwa Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki respon positif terhadap penggunaan teknologi dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, disarankan video call WhatsApp dapat menjadi salah satu solusi alternatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.
This study focused on teaching speaking skills using Recording WhatsApp Video Call as a treatment by implementing the Communicative Language Learning (CLL) method for the first grade of senior high school in SMA 5 Banda Aceh who still have poor speaking skills. The researcher used a purposive sampling by consulting with the English teacher. The samples are from X IPA 3 Class which consists of 20 students. The researcher performed a sequential explanatory mixed-method study that displays a descriptive analysis of quantitative data collection and an in-depth understanding through qualitative data collection. This study compared the result of the students’ achievement in speaking before and after giving the treatment. The instrument used was an oral speaking test and interview. The data were analyzed by using statistic simple formula and gathered from pre-tests and post-tests. The result showed that the average score from the post-test was higher than the pre-test score. There was an improvement of the students’ speaking skills after implementing the method where the mean score of pre-test is 48.75 and the score of post-test is 73.75. The hypothesis testing proved that Ha has been accepted and Ho has been rejected. The result indicated that most of the students had a positive response towards the use of the technology in a learning activity. Therefore, it is suggested that WhatsApp video call can be one alternative solution to improve students’ speaking performance.
