Menulis adalah kemampuan yang membantu penulis untuk menuangkan ide-ide mereka ke dalam paragraf yang baik. Berdasarkan Depdiknas (2013), ada lima jenis teks yang harus dipelajari yaitu teks prosedur, teks recount, teks naratif, teks report, dan teks deskriptif. Namun, penelitian ini hanya berfokus pada teks naratif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan peningkatan keterampilan menulis dalam teks naratif setelah siswa diajar menggunakan gambar seri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen sebagai desain penelitian dengan dua kelompok yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 60 siswa di kelas X Mipa 1 dan X Mipa 5 dengan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini menggunakan tes yaitu pre-test, dan post-test. Hasil post-test di kelas eksperimen mendapatkan skor yang lebih tinggi dengan rata-rata skor 82,40 dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol dengan rata-rata skor 72,13. Hasil data dianalisis dengan menerapkan beberapa prosedur statistik yang disarankan oleh Sugiyono (2013). Diindikasikan bahwa ada peningkatan dari hasil pre-test dan post-test siswa di kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, tetapi kelas eksperimen mendapatkan skor lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol. Kesimpulannya, ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada hasil belajar siswa sebelum dan sesudah diajar menggunakan media gambar seri dalam proses belajar mengajar bahasa Inggris di SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Hasil penelitian ini akan menjadi acuan bagi guru untuk menggunakan teknik yang baik agar proses belajar mengajar lebih aktif dan menarik.

Writing is the ability that helps writers to put their ideas into a good paragraph. Based on Depdiknas (2013), there are five types of text that should be learned namely procedure text, recount text, narrative text, report text, and descriptive text. But, this study only focused on narrative text. This research aims to find if any significant effect improvement writing skills in narrative text after students are taught using picture series. This research used quasi-experimental methods as the research design with two groups namely the experimental class and the control class. This study was conducted in SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh. The population in this study is all of the students’ tenth-grade at SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh with a total of 60 students as samples in class X Mipa 1 and X Mipa 5 with purposive sampling technique. The instrument in this study used tests, namely pre-test, and post-test. The result of the post-test in the experimental class get a higher score where the mean score is 82.40 than in the control class where the mean score is 72.13. The result of the data was analyzed by applying some statistical procedures suggested by Sugiyono (2013). It was indicated that there were improvements from the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test in the experimental class and control class, but the experimental get a higher score than the control class. In conclusion, there is a significant difference in students’ achievement before and after being taught using picture series as a medium in teaching and learning English at SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh in the academic year 2021/2022. The result of this study will be a reference for the teacher to use a good technique to make the teaching and learning process more active and interesting.
