This thesis entitled “An Error Analysis on Students’ Writing Letter of Complaints (A Mix Method Study to the third Year Students of SMK N 2 Lhkseumawe)”. This research was conducted based on preliminary study. The researcher is to reveal the errors types and then to find out the kind of frequently encountered errors and to find out the pedagogical implications of error analysis. The sample of study is the representative students from five departments (Multimedia, Designer, Food and Beverage, Hotel Accommodation and Beautician), numbering at 20 students. On the one hand, the writer conducted the library research in order to find some theories and references related to the field of error analysis in writing. On the other hand, to get the data in the field, the writer administered the test to write a simple complaints letter between 100-150 words under the direction ‘you are a student. Last month you placed an order for a watch in catalog No. 405-SW from TMT factory and you have paid US$500 for it. However, the watch you have received is no. 456-SW. Write the letter to complain the goods you ordered’. The data were analyzed through analyzing the grammatically incorrect form of the sentences by marking the errors, reconstructing the correct sentences, analyzing the errors sentences, classifying the types of errors, and counting each kind of errors in order to find out the most common types of errors. The data shows that the students encountered errors on the categories: 56 (45%) of verb errors, 7 (5.5%) of noun ending errors, 15 (12%) of article errors category, and 47 (37%) of sentence category. In line with the result of the research, the writer recommends that the students have to learn more seriously on the correct use of verb form both regular and irregular as well as the use of auxiliary verb. Beside that, the writer also suggests the students to pay more attention on the correct use of sentences on producing a text, especially in writing letter of complaints. In addition, it is essential for the teachers to find out that changing of the verb is still hard for the students. Therefore, the teachers are suggested to be creative to develop the strategy for teaching to improve the process of how to use the verb in various context of communication. Finally, the teachers should take some benefits from pedagogical implication of errors analysis on developing writing letter of complaints.

Tesis ini berjudul “Sebuah Analisis kesalahan dalam menulis surat keluhan. (Penelitian Kualitatif pada murid kelas tiga SMK N 2 Lhokseumawe)”. Tesis ini dilanjutkan berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya. Penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan jenis kesalahan dan untuk mengetahui jenis kesalahan yang sering dilakukan oleh murid kelas XII SMK 2 Lhokseumawe perwakilan dari lima jurusan (Multimedia, Busana, Jasa Boga, Akomodasi perhotelan dan Kecantikan) berjumlah 20 0rang. Dalam melakukan penelitian pustaka, penulis mengumpulkan teori-teori dan referensi yang berhubungan dengan analisis kesalahan dalam menulis. Sedangkan untuk mendapatkan data dilapangan penulis meminta murid-murid untuk menulis surat keluhan sederhana dari 100 hingga 150 kata dengan petunjuk ‘kamu seorang murid. Bulan yang lalu kamu membeli sebuah jam tangan yang ada di katalog no. 405 –SW dari perusahaan TMT dan kamu telah membayar $500 US dollar untuk jam tersebut. Namun, jam yang kamu terima terdapat di katalog no. 456-SW. Tulislah surat keluhan terhadap barang yang sudah kamu pesan’. Kemudian data dianalisa untuk menemukan kesalahan tata bahasa dari kalimat dengan menandainya, merekonstruksi kalimat tersebut dan menghitung setiap jenis kesalahan untuk mengetahui kesalahan tata bahasa yang sering dilakukan. Data menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang melakukan kesalahan pada kategori: Kesalahan dalam kata kerja sebanyak 56 (45%), Kesalahan akhiran kata sebanyak 7 (5.5%), kesalahan penggunaan artikel sebanyak 15 (12%) dan kesalahan dalam bentu kalimat sebanyak 47 (37%). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, penulis menyarankan bahwa siswa harus banyak berlatih dalam perubahan bentuk kata kerja baik beraturan maupun tidak beraturan, serta penggunaan kata kerja bantu. Selain itu, penulis juga menyarankan murid-murid untuk memberi perhatian lebih dalam menghasilkan kalimat yang tepat dan benar dalam menulis, terutama dalam menulis surat keluhan. Oleh karena itu, ini sangat penting untuk guru-guru untuk menemukan bahwa perubahan pada kata kerja masih sulit untuk dipelajari oleh murid. Makanya, guru-guru dituntut untuk lebih kreatif dalam dalam mengembangkan cara-cara terbaru untuk meningkatkan penguasaan masalah tersebut dengan menciptakan situasi kelas yang menyenangkan. Disamping itu, guru dapat mengambil implikasi pedagogic dari analisa kesalahan dalam menulis surat keluhan.
