Penelitian ini mengkaji kesulitan yang dialami guru EFL Aceh dalam melakukan presentasi lisan serta strategi yang mereka gunakan untuk mengatasi hambatan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi campuran (mixed-method) dan melibatkan 50 guru EFL di Aceh yang berpartisipasi dalam sesi kuesioner dan wawancara. Penelitian ini berfokus pada tiga aspek kesulitan, yaitu masalah terkait audiens, kemampuan presentasi, dan karakteristik personal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masalah yang paling sering muncul adalah kecemasan, dan beberapa guru juga mengungkapkan rasa kurang percaya diri, terutama sebelum melakukan presentasi dalam konteks akademik. Faktor penyebabnya meliputi ketakutan akan kegagalan, keterampilan bahasa yang kurang memadai, serta ketidaknyamanan dalam berinteraksi dengan audiens baru.
Dalam hal keterampilan presentasi, guru mengalami kesulitan dalam mengorganisasi ide, menjaga kelancaran berbicara, memastikan pelafalan yang tepat, mengelola waktu secara efektif, serta memilih kosakata yang sesuai. Tantangan ini semakin diperparah oleh masalah terkait audiens, seperti perbandingan dengan rekan sejawat, ketakutan terhadap kritik, dan interaksi dengan kelompok audiens yang beragam. Untuk mengatasi berbagai kesulitan tersebut, para guru menggunakan beragam strategi, di mana yang paling umum adalah memperdalam pemahaman terhadap materi melalui persiapan dan studi yang intensif. Strategi lainnya meliputi pembuatan kerangka presentasi, pemanfaatan teknologi dan media pembelajaran, latihan menggunakan rekaman, mempelajari model presentasi, serta penggunaan keterampilan interaksi seperti humor untuk mengurangi rasa gugup.
Secara khusus dalam konteks konferensi, penelitian ini memberikan wawasan penting bagi pengembangan program pelatihan yang lebih terarah guna meningkatkan keterampilan presentasi lisan dan mendorong pertumbuhan profesional guru EFL.

This study examines the difficulty Acehnese EFL teachers had when giving oral presentations and the coping mechanisms they used to overcome these obstacles. The study uses a mixed-method methodology and involves 50 EFL teachers from Aceh who participated in questionnaires and interviews session. It focuses on three aspects of difficulty: audience-related issues, presentation abilities, and personal characteristics. According to the results, the most frequent issue was anxiousness, and some educators also mentioned feeling unconfident, especially before giving presentations in scholarly settings. Fear of failing, poor language skills, and discomfort interacting with new audiences were all contributing causes. Teachers found it difficult to organize their thoughts, maintain fluency, ensure proper pronunciation, efficiently manage their time, and choose suitable terminology when it came to presentation skills. These challenges were exacerbated by audience-related problems like peer comparison, fear of criticism, and engagement with a diverse group of individuals. Teachers used a variety of coping mechanisms to get beyond these challenges, the most common of which was becoming experts in the subject through in-depth study and preparation. Creating outlines, using technology and educational materials, rehearsing with recordings, studying presentation models, and using interaction skills like humor to lower nervousness were some tactics. Particularly in the realm of conferences, the study offers valuable insights for developing targeted training programs that would enhance oral presentation skills and promote professional growth among EFL teachers.
