Penyakit parasit merupakan salah satu penyakit yang menyerang kuda. Parasit pada
ternak dibagi menjadi dua yaitu endoparasit dan ektoparasit.Endoparasit yang umumnya
menyerang ternak adalah cacing, namun infestasi protozoa juga sangat penting di perhatikan.
Infeksi parasit dapat menyebabkan kerugian ekonomi seperti penurunan produksi susu kuda.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengetahui prevalensi protozoa
gastrointestinal pada kuda perah di peternakan kuda Berastagi dan juga untuk melihat ada tidaknya
hubungan antara infestasi yang terjadi antara kuda jantan dengan kuda betina. Penelitian ini
menggunakan 33 ekor kuda betina dan 17 ekor kuda jantan di peternakan kuda rakyat di kota
Berastagi, Kabupaten Karo, Sumatera Utara. Pemeriksaan sampel menggunakan metode apung,
formol eter, dan Ziehl Neelsen. Hasil yang diperoleh akan disajikan dalam bentuk tabel dan
kemudian diolah data menggunakan spss dengan metode Chi square. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa kuda-kuda perah di peternakan kuda Berastagi Sumatera Utara terinfestasi
oleh protozoa gastrointestinal yaitu dari golongan Amoeba (100%) terdiri dari genus Entamoeba
spp. dengan prevalensi sebanyak 100%. Sedangkan dari golongan Ciliata ditemukan tiga genus
yaitu Bundleia sp (2%), Polymorphella sp (100%), dan Cycloposthium sp (2%). Dari golongan
ordo Coccidia ditemukan dua genus yaitu Eimeria spp (17%) dan Cryptosporidium sp (82%).
Tidak ditemukan protozoa dari golongan Flagellata. hasil uji statistik menunjukkan tidak ada
perbedaan infestasi protozoa gastrointestinal antara kuda jantan dan kuda betina (P> 0,05).

Parasitic disease is one of the diseases that attack horses. Parasites in livestock are divided into two, namely endoparasites and ectoparasites. Endoparasites that generally attack livestock are worms, but protozoan infestations are also very important to note. Parasitic infections can cause economic losses such as decreased milk production of horses. This study aims to identify and determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa in dairy horses in Berastagi horse farms and also to see whether there is a relationship between male and female horse infestations. This study used 33 female horses and 17 male horses at the people's horse farm in Berastagi City, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Sample examination using floating method, formol ether, and Ziehl Neelsen. The results obtained will be presented in tabular form and then processed using the SPSS data using the Chi square method. The results showed that the dairy horses in the Berastagi horse farm, North Sumatra, were infested by gastrointestinal protozoa, namely the Amoeba group (100%) consisting of the genus Entamoeba spp. with a prevalence of 100%. Meanwhile, from the Ciliata group, three genera were found, namely Bundleia sp (2%), Polymorphella sp (100%), and Cycloposthium sp (2%). From the order Coccidia, two genera were found, namely Eimeria spp (17%) and Cryptosporidium sp (82%). No protozoa from the flagellate group were found. the results of statistical tests showed that there was no difference in gastrointestinal protozoan infestations between stallions and mares
