This thesis is the students' Ability in Mastering Vocabulary Through definition of The Words. Vocabulary is the basic element to any language learning. All learners, including college students arc required to master it as good as possible. so that they can use it in communication. especially in gaining information from media written in English. The aim of this study is to know the ability of the students of MTs Al-Fauzul Kabir in mastering vocabulary. The writer chose one class (III.A) of the third year. The total number of the students was 36, but only 31 students that took the lest. They were given a set of test in the form of matching and multiple choice with four options and only one as the correct answer. The time was given to the test about 90 minutes. To analyze the test result; the writer employed some statistical procedures such as b) determining mean, range. and interval class. The result was found that the mean score was
60.3. It means that the third year students of MTs A I-Fauzul Kabir Kota Jantho do not have good ability in mastering vocabulary through defining of the words.
