This study is entitled an analysis of errors in constructing passive voice at XI-IA I students of SMAN 1 Peukan Bada, This study focuses on the analysis the type of errors that the students made when they construct passive voice based on surfaced strategy taxonomy (omission, addition, misformation, and misordering) and communicative effect taxonomy (global Error and local error). The goals of this study are to find students ability in constructing passive voice, and to describe the errors made by XI-IA1 students of SMAN 1 Peukan. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis. The instrument was a test, consisting 15 question of constructing item and a completion item test. The test was conducted on 23 May 2011 taking place at SMAN 1
Peukan Bada. The results show that the students' correct answers based on surfaced strategy taxonomy are 36.47% and their errors are 77.64%. The errors are divided into four categories they are Omission, Addition, Misformation, and Misordering, it included 35.50% of Omission, 13.06% of Addition, 30.40% of Misformation, and 21.04% of Misordering. Whereas based on communicative effect taxonomy their correct answers are 36.47% and their errors are 63.53%. The errors are divided into two categories they are Global error and Local error, it included 36.11% of Global error and 63.88% of Local error. In other words, the finding shows that the students are mostly weak. in constructing passive voice.
