The objective of this study is to look at some given theories or research on the using of PBL for speaking. The discussion of the method is focused on teaching speaking by using Problem-Based Learning to improve students' achievement for senior high school. The study found that PBL is effective used in teaching speaking because it helps students to construct their ideas, improve their vocabulary, and provide good material for them. Teaching speaking by using PBL gives positive impact to the success of speaking because PBL concerns to the real problem which enables students to overcome it. Problem is a trigger to students to force them to think critically so that they can convey their meaningful ideas to the interlocutor. It is also found that the students' vocabulary also improve by using PBL. Then the material which is provided by the teacher is authentic material that relate to their real life.The method used in this study is library research. Readings obtained from various resources are processed and described in a descriptive way. Based on the research findings and experts' statements it is found that PBL is effective to improve students' speaking. This study is expected to be useful for English teachers and readers.
