The aim of this study is to describe idiomatic expression in Acehnese society, analyzing the grammatical construction of Acehnese idioms in Sampoi Niet subdistrict, Aceh Jaya regency and explaining the functions, the characteristics and the categorization of Acehnese idioms based on the content and meaning. The population of this study is the Acehnese speakers who live in Sampoi Niet and the samples are taken from traders, housewives, teachers, civil servants and the students. The methodology used in conducting this study was ethnography and the data are collected by using some techniques; interview, questionnaire and field note. Based on the findings, Acehnese idioms function as social control on the current behaviour of its people, to give advice, guidance and religious teaching, as a tool of practice and as a tool of expressing romantization. By its metaphorical language, Acehnese idioms are able to transfer a broader meaning than the common language. Acehnese idiom is a way of indirect saying, warning, advising and guiding the people of the society. It can be applied to any situation where it is necessary and appropnate to deliver it. in the research finding, he data analysis shown that the Acehnese idiom were categorized into two categories. the idioms arc grammatically correct structure and some other are grammatically incorrect structure. So, it can be concluded that Acehnese idioms can have completely regular and irregular structures in their grammar.
