This thesis is entitled "Students' Ability in Comprehending Gambits Used in Conversation (a research al SMAN I Krueng Barona Jaya)". This study was conducted to find out whether or not the students of SMAN l Kr. Barona Jaya have good ability in comprehending gambits used in conversation. The population of this study is the second year students of SMAN 1 Kr. Barona Jaya. The writer took the samples by using random sampling and the total numbers of them were
40 students. To collect the data, she gave two kinds of test, namely, objective test in the form of multiple choice consists of twenty items and completion test consists of ten items. In processing the data, the writer used statistical procedure; the range of score, the amount of interval class, the space of interval class, the frequency distribution and the arithmetic mean score (M). From the data analysis, the mean score (M) of the second year students of SMAN 1 Kr. Barona Jaya is
68,75. It means that the students of SMAN l Kr. Barona Jaya have good ability in
comprehending gambits in conversation.
