This thesis is entitled The Boarding School Students' Difficulties in Listening English Dialogue spoken by Native Speaker" {A Study in Dayah Modem Darul 'Ulum). The aims of doing th.is research are to investigate the students if they found difficulties in listening English Dialogue and what factors affecting them in listening English Dialogue. The subject of this study was the second years students of Madrasah Aliyah Darul 'Ulum. All of the students divided in three classes. The total numbers of the sample were 84 students. The data of this study were collected on August 3" and 8", 2007. The method applied in this study was descriptive quantitative research. The instrument used was questionnaire and test. The test consists of four dialogues. The first topic is about consulting and traveling, the topic of second dialogue is grocery, the third is asking direction, and the fourth is finding job. The findings show that boarding school students have difficulties in listening English dialogues. 72.6% students sometimes found difficulty in understanding vocabulary, 77.4% pronunciation, 69.1% concentration, and comprehending unfamiliar topic. Also they were affected by some factors in listening to a foreign language. The most affected factor was the speech rate of the speaker. Based on the data calculation, 86.9 % students had difficulty listening English dialogues because of the speech rate of the speaker, 78.6 % students affected by the environment,
59.5% by anxiety, 97.6% by listening habitual practice, 81% by teacher's motivation,
67.9% by background knowledge, and 97.6 % by their interest.
