 <note>Speaking  is  very  important  for  students  in  learning  English  as  foreign  language. However, the students sometimes get difficulties in speaking. Consequently, the teacher should  apply  the appropriate  technique  in  teaching  speaking.  This  thesis  is entitled Teaching Speaking  through Group Work Activity for Senior High School Students .The objective  of this study is to look at some given theories and research findings on the use of group  work technique  in teaching  speaking. This  study  employs  library research, which was conducted through  the exploration  of readings  in library and the internet. Readings obtained were then processed and described systematically. The discussion of this study  focuses  on  the  effectiveness   of using  group  work  technique  in  solving students'  problems  in teaching  and  learning process  of speaking  skill.  Base  on the research findings and experts  statements, it was found that group work technique can improve  the  students'  speaking  skill.  This  study  also  found  that  using  group  work technique  can help students  to be  able  to use the target  language  communicatively. Besides,  they will  be more active, motivated,  and confident  Therefore,  the results of this study can be used as a treatment  model in speaking.  Hopefully,  this study can be useful for other English teachers and the future researchers.&#13;
