Title : Analysis of Grammatical Errors in Students' Writing
(A Descriptive Study at MAN Darussalam Aceh Besar)

The objective of this study was to identify the types of errors in students' English writing made by the second year students. Furthermore, it attempts to give identification on description of the errors types and find out their frequency of occurrence errors that the students do most. Forty-one second year students were assigned to write a descriptive paragraph in English about describing people based on their material chosen from the handbook. The errors collected are identified and classified into 4 categories and 9 types of errors. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research that is describing the data by using words. The results of the study show that two most common category of errors committed by the students were verb errors occurred 158 errors and sentence errors categories which contributed 150 errors. Both of those errors were poor mastered by the student, the errors were at 46% - 50% level of mastery based on the term of errors. In addition, the three most common types of errors made by the student were subject-verb agreement (74%), fragment (49%) and word order (46%). Subject verb-agreement was very poor mastered by the students. It was at 51% - 100% level of mastery.
